This is worrying because there is no GenNext of farmers and the ones who are engaged are quitting everyday. This is an exodus!

It means we are approaching a situation where India - one of the biggest consumers of food - will be left with few farmers - while the demand for food keeps on increasing.

It is not just India. Farming population across the world is ageing without an adequate replacement by the next generation. The average age of a farmer in the US is 58 years, while that of a Japanese farmer is 67 years. Every third European farmer is more than 65 years old.

Unless citizens take upon themselves to salvage and change this situation, what we will see is a tremendous increase in food prices, higher imports, lesser food options, factory farming and a big hole in everyone's pocket.

We need to save our marginal farmers, save our Family Farms and ensure that the youth continue to farm and this can be done only by ๐™‹๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™˜๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š-๐™๐™–๐™ง๐™ข๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ which is a.k.a ๐˜Š๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ฎ๐˜ถ๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜บ ๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ ๐˜ˆ๐˜จ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ถ๐˜ญ๐˜ต๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ (๐˜Š๐˜š๐˜ˆ).

Family Farms Will they continue ? I've met plent Family Farms

Will they continue ?

I've met plenty of farmers across Maharashtra growing diverse crops and there is one question I always ask - who is going to continue farming after you?

99 out of 100 farmers give one common answer - definitely 'not' our next generation.

This is scary, dreadful, alarming and gives chills to the bones and I bet this would be a common answer across India.

Most farmers I've met are in mid-30s to mid-40s and their kids are in a boarding school in the next big city learning skills that would make them employment ready. The generation of farmers who are toiling it out today are clear that their next generation will never get into Agriculture.

The question we need to ask is - WHY ?

Have you interacted with any farmer?

Do you think farming will be just like it has always been?

Do you think food prices will fall or rise in the future?

Leave your thoughts and comments as to what you think is the future of farming / agriculture in India...

Family Farms We don't stop when we are tired, we Family Farms

We don't stop when we are tired, we stop when it's done. Retiring for the day, looking forward to day tomorrow at Sun break and celebrate life in the farm growing food for all.

On the farm we don't go out looking for happiness, we are happiness and so people in the cities dream, tell and reminisce about farm life because that's the true life everyone deserves, that's true happiness.

Start a kitchen garden, grow some herbs, sprout some moong, spend time in the kitchen, go to the market - these are ways you connect to your food, connect to Nature and your true self.

Connect with a farmer nearby, you'll always find one of you really look out and connect with your roots, get earthed!
Family Farms We are not labour, we are the ones w Family Farms

We are not labour, we are the ones who nurture the plants, love and care for them and that's how we curate the gift of nature called food.

We don't work on farms, we live here, it's our home where we raise our children and families.

We don't live inside four walls, we live under the open skies, where we feel more secure. This is freedom for us, this is security for us.

We thrive in Nature, with Nature, living lives what many people dream about. We are living that dream ๐Ÿฅณ

We create with Nature it's bounty, it's gift, we give them names, some are called grapes, double red flame grapes ๐Ÿ‡

Come, visit us, come to a farm near you, we are everywhere!

Family Farms Women farmers are the backbone of fa Family Farms

Women farmers are the backbone of farming in India and you see them dominating the workforce too. They manage the farm and home and lead from front in both.

They share the farm responsibilities but their main domain and activity is once the grapes are harvested. This is what they do! the packing, weighing and ensuring only the best grapes reach us - it's a meticulous job and always well done by the women of the house, rather - women of the farm ๐Ÿ˜Š

So everytime you open a box our Double Red Flame ๐Ÿ‡ you know who's the artist !
Extended Family The extended family whom we pref Extended Family

The extended family whom we prefer to call the โ€˜force behind the farmโ€™ is 10 lacs strong, just in Nashik district of which almost 3 lacs are tribals. They are all unskilled and learn farming skills on the job along with fellow farm workers. Its works just like the army, learn-practice-repeat.

This is every farmersโ€™ extended family without which growing food is unimaginable.

These are migrants who move from their villages mostly from the hills and forests of Peth and Trambakeshwar where jobs do not exist, no medical assistance is available of any kind and life is tough. They move to greener pastures working on farms and are paid between โ‚น300-350 per day. This luxurious pay is however available only to a lucky few who are hired for a full 12 months. For the rest its only 3-4 months of sunshine.

Nevertheless, these are the guys who make it possible for us to have food on our plates and are currently busy nurturing the โ€˜Double Red Flame Grapesโ€™ with the farmers, toiling it out for us.

So if you ate today, thank the farmer before every meal and also the โ€˜force behind the mealโ€™.

Family Farms These are families who have been lay Family Farms

These are families who have been laying their cash in the open, not for a day, not for a month, not even for 12months - but year after year - and some have been doing this for generations!

Shocking right ? When you think about it, they really have been doing this, unabashedly - not for themselves - but for us. Farmers are part of us as much as they consider us part of them.

These farms, which are family-owned and 'operated' confront challenges due to current trends, such as increased movement into cities, an aging population, farm consolidation, and most importantly weather patterns. But the biggest problem is that this is the last generation of farmers we see on the farms. This is the truth! Unless, we extend a hand to them and make them part of our community - again - the way it used to be when farmers from Vasai (Vasai wala) used to come carrying fresh veggies and fruits once a week and we all used to stock up - that too without a fridge.

We are all about Family Farms, our Grapes are from a small family farm and we have been working to make them part of our community - with you. Let's reach out to a farmer and rebuild that lost connection, again!
